Jo Aston and Jill Ellis, Torus Housing
Jo Aston is Torus’ Safeguarding Officer and Interim Operations Manager for Refuge and IDVA services in St Helens.Jo has worked for Torus for 15 years in various frontline and management roles including young people’s accommodation, tenancy sustainment and domestic abuse services. Jo chairs Torus Domestic Abuse Steering Group which led the Group to achieve accreditation with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance Accreditation in October 2023.
Jill works for Torus as the Tenancy Sustain Team Leader, managing the Tenancy Sustain and Domestic Abuse Housing Teams. Jill has worked for Torus for 14 years in various roles throughout Neighbourhoods, ASB and Support Network. Jill is a member of the Domestic Abuse Steering Group, and is responsible for ensuring the DA Team deliver high quality housing related support for victims of domestic across the local authority areas in which we operate and has a responsibility for MARAC in Liverpool, Warrington and St Helens.
Serena Kennedy, Chief Constable of Merseyside Police
Serena has led Merseyside Police since 2021, making history as the first female Chief Constable. With extensive experience in policing, she has championed inclusion, wellbeing, and protecting vulnerable people. Her work also includes tackling serious and organised crime and community engagement. Serena will discuss the role of policing in preventing domestic abuse and improving responses to vulnerable populations.
Emma Pickering, Head of Technology-Facilitated Abuse & Economic Empowerment, Refuge
Emma’s expertise in technology-facilitated abuse is reshaping how we approach this growing issue. From leading national projects to shaping legislative reforms, Emma’s work supports survivors of abuse in the digital age. She will share insights into the challenges of tech-facilitated abuse and how we can protect those most at risk.
Michelle John, Founding Director, PEGS (Parenting Empowerment Group Support)
Michelle is at the forefront of tackling Child to Parent Abuse, a hidden form of domestic abuse. Through her work with PEGS, she has directly supported thousands of parents and trained hundreds of professionals. Michelle will explore the intersection of child-to-parent abuse and domestic violence, providing valuable tools for intervention and support.
