Separation Agreements

Sometimes your relationship has not worked out but you may not be ready for a divorce, or you may have religious objections to a legal separation done through a court process.

If so, a written separation agreement may be best for you. It involves the preparation of a contract in which you and your former partner agree to live apart and the agreement sets out what happens to any joint property, who pays for what or how the debts are dealt with. The contract can also set out the arrangements for the children.

Such separation agreements are useful if you want to separate with a view to getting a divorce by consent once you have been separated for two years.

At Morecrofts, our expert team of family law specialist are able to advise you on the wording of any agreement and whether it is in fact the best solution for you.
