Do I need to instruct a local law firm for my purchase/sale?

One of the questions that we receive from new clients is whether they need to instruct a local law firm for their purchase or sale of their property.

At Morecrofts we believe that the most important aspect of the conveyancing process is the service and expertise you need from your lawyers. This is because the legal processes involved in buying and selling a home are generally the same in England and Wales. The exception is if you live in England or Wales, you should not instruct a law firm based in Scotland or Northern Ireland as they have different laws and procedures.

Our Morecrofts Property Team have continued to work through the pandemic, and we have been able adapt quickly to a remote way of working and can deal with most matters through our case management system by email and phone, rather than having to attending our office.

This is advantageous to those who have been recommended Morecrofts by friends or family members who have previously instructed us but are not located in the same part of the country.

However, many people find it comforting to use a recommended firm of solicitors with local knowledge if you have complicated circumstances that you need advice on.

If you need a face to face appointment because you have communication needs or you would prefer to drop off documents at the office rather than send them in the post or via email, or just would prefer the option to speak with your lawyer face to face, then a local lawyer may be the best option for you.

Ultimately, it will depend on your personal preferences.

We have a large property team at Morecrofts, where you will be assigned a lawyer who is able to meet your needs and will provide you with a personal service.  You will be able to speak directly to your lawyer and their support team who understand and have been dealing with your case.
