Law Society President Ian Smart v Govan Centre's Mike Dailly
The current Law Society President Ian Smart debates with Govan Centre's Mike Dailly on Legal Services Bill reforms otherwise known as Tesco Law on Scotland's Politics Show.
While the debate makes the proposed reforms sound like an internal squabble between lawyers over retaining their control of the Law Society itself, the fact is at this time, lawyers have a business market dominance over consumers access to justice which is what they are fighting to retain.
Legal Services Reform in Scotland only came about after a "supercomplaint" was made by the Which? consumer organisation to the Office of Fair Trading, which ultimately provoked the Scottish Government into doing something about the poor state of legal services in Scotland.
