Morecrofts Solicitors has appointed the first non-legal partner in its 200-year history.

The firm has promoted David Parr, who has led Morecrofts’ four-strong finance team since joining the business at the end of 2011.

The appointment follows the news that Morecrofts has been granted Alternative Business Structure(ABS) status under the Legal Services Act, a change that allows non-lawyers to become equity partners for the first time.

Alison Lobb, managing partner of Morecrofts said: “I am delighted that we have successfully applied to become an ABS and that David has therefore been able to accept our invitation to join the partnership.

“This is an exciting step forward that enables us to build and invigorate our business for the future by bringing David’s financial and business development expertise to our existing partnership board.

“It is especially satisfying that our financial expert is able to see the potential for growth in the business and has chosen to invest in that future.”

Alternative Business Structure (ABS) status will allow Morecrofts to retain its place at the forefront of the professional services market.

David Parr said: “It’s a real honour to have been asked to become the firm’s first non-legal partner and it not only shows their confidence in me but underlines the partnership’s desire to grow and develop the business.

“The move to an ABS structure means we are no longer tied to traditional working practices and instead have access to new investment and a much freer hand in moulding our services to the needs of our customers. It’s a privilege to be part of one of Merseyside’s oldest independent law firms at such an exciting time.”
